There's a moment I keep coming back to.

I was sitting in a small café in Lyon the kind with mismatched chairs and a waiter who's been there forty years.

Outside, children were kicking a ball against a stone wall....soft passes, quick turns, the ball never touching the ground. Their fathers sat nearby, glasses of Beaujolais in hand, offering advice between sips.

A woman at the next table folded her newspaper and smiled. "Le Foot!" she said, as if that explained everything.

And maybe it does.

This series of writings will become a journey through France and it's football..

The Culture, the food, the language, the rituals, the rivalries. How football fits into French life and how French life fits into football.

Think of this as a footballing travelogue, a history book, and a love letter rolled into one.

You're not looking for match reports you could find anywhere. You're looking for stories. Stories of France’s favourite sporting pastime - Le Foot!!

And I'm going to find them.
